In 1989, the Mendini brothers opened Atelier Mendini in Milan. The Atelier has designed many different types of work in Italy and abroad. These include the Alessi factories; subway stations in Naples; the Olympic pool in Trieste; a tower in Hiroshima, Japan; the Groninger Museum in Holland; a city quarter in Lugano, Switzerland; an office building for the Madsack company in Hanover, Germany; and the high-speed train terminal in Gwangju, South Korea. Atelier Mendini has received many international awards. One is the 2003 Gold Medal for Italian Architecture at the Triennale di Milano.The Atelier has always been active in the industrial design sector, collaborating with many important companies in Europe and East Asia.
